an armoire story

I received a phone call from John today which struck fear in my heart. It seems he had come across an armoire on the side of the road with a sign that said, "free" on it.  He was so excited that he hastily loaded it up and promptly called me to rave about his find.  Conjuring up all kinds of images of what kind of armoire would be "free" on the side of the road led to terrifying thoughts of  John "decorating" my house in New York.  (I already had to remove an unbelievably tacky tin sign on my last trip.)  He did mention the armoire "needed a little work..."  Several hours later, after presumably placing the darn thing in my home, he finally sent me a picture.

Not too shabby!  We had someone  examine it and it's over 100 years old and made of teak - except for the two replaced bottom drawers.   Only in the Hamptons...

This is going to be good!

mink muffs

One day last summer, I decided to get a mani/pedi in Sag Harbor.  As always, I can never choose a nail polish color.  Why do they have to look so different in the bottle than they do on?!

The lady who helped me suggested a color.  She said it was "very in - very stylish."  I assumed she knew more than me and agreed to try it.

When she finished my toes, I looked down and was shocked to see a color that looked like a mix between mud and excrement.  She saw the look of horror on my face and exclaimed,  "You don't like it!"  I whimpered,  "It's just that I've never had anything so...dark before."  She said that if I didn't like it, I could come back in two days for a polish change.  I looked at her and declared,  "I'll be back in two hours!"

The day was busy and the next thing I knew I was a guest at my friend's beach club for a lobster boil that evening.  As we sat down, my friend looked at me and whispered, "I love your mink muffs."  Perplexed, I looked at her, "Excuse me?"  "Your mink muffs," she purred, looking pointedly at my toes, "I love your mink muffs."   I looked down and could see everyone at our table was wearing Essie Mink Muffs on their toes!

I wonder what the "in" color will be this summer...

Why?

After moving from rural Georgia to the Hamptons four years ago, many of my friends said that I should start a blog.  I had many memorable moments, but was so busy embarking on my new life that I seldom wrote anything down.  Every once in a while, I'd send an e-mail to some close friends and that was my way of recording a particular event.

Last August, I moved back to Georgia and obviously, my chance for beginning a blog dropped dramatically. What would I say,  "Dropped the kids off at school.  Ate at Bojangles."  Not exactly compelling reading.

Now, as the school year wraps up,  I'm beginning the countdown to spending the summer back in the Hamptons.  I've decided to create a fun summer blog.   It might be fun, funny, and possibly interesting.  The odds are it will not be deep, inspirational, nor thought provoking.  If you like it, read it.  If not, no worries.
