the barn

While visiting
an estate
recently,
John and I decided
our favorite part
was the barn.

Seriously.
It's not the main residence
or
one of the guest houses.

It's the barn.

It was an original structure
on the property
and has been renovated
using all reclaimed wood.

The results are spectacular!

The juxtaposition
of modern art
over the island
was perfection.

John was obsessed with the doors.

While I marveled at the most stunning
display of art I have ever seen
in a home.

Who knew?
My dream house is a barn.

contrasts

A study of contrasts:

C came home from dinner
with a friend
at Babette's
in East Hampton
last night.
She said,
"I met the nicest girl tonight.
She was soooo beautiful
and so nice.
She owns the candy store.
You know...
Dylan's."

My childhood:
'I wonder if Ginny
and I can ride bikes to
Pasquale's
and
Dipper Dan's.'

burma rising

On Saturday,
we attended
Burma Rising
at the home of
Joan and George Hornig.

The Hornigs are known for their
extradordinary sense of
philanthropy.
In fact,
100% of the profits of
Joan Hornig Jewelry
go to the charity of
Your
choice.

This event was to benefit the
The night was filled
with glamorous individuals,
Burmese Art
and auction items,
as well as a
specialty cocktail,
Wolffer wine,
and Burmese cuisine.

We listened to speeches about the
foundation and the need for education
in Burma.

Joan is the stunning lady in the red dress.

We were treated to an exhibit
of a traditional
Burmese dance.

This guy stood in front of me,

but I didn't mind...
really.

The night was perfect
and we were encouraged to explore
the grounds.

They were exquisite.

We fell in love with the porches
on the guest houses,

as any true southerners would.

We adored the rose garden,

this serene arbor,

the sunken tennis courts,

this soothing fountain,

and the verdant landscape.

The whole event was marvelous
and so were the people.

However,
the highlight
of my evening
was dinner
on the terrace
After
the party...

today with john

The Today Show
aired a fun story
on the Hamptons
this morning.

One clip
was about the
wine stand
at Wolffer.

John did a great job
on the interview!

friday nights

We've settled into a comfortable routine
on Friday nights
this summer.

The evening always
begins at the wine stand
for cocktails and live music.

The only thing that changes
week to week
is the band
and the ever-increasing crowds.

So many families
attend Sunset Friday
because the weather is so nice here.
It's almost never too hot or humid.
And the kids are always happy to hang out
listening to music,
making new friends,

and devouring
the cheese plates.

Cocktails are always
followed by
a dinner party

filled with interesting people
and lively conversation.

The countdown is on.
Two more Fridays
in paradise!

yaphank show

On a rainy day
last week,

C
participated in
her first
horse show
of the season.

It is such a joy
to watch her
doing what she loves.

Afterwards,
we had the pleasure
of watching her jumper trainer
participate
in her first hunter division.

Babi was excellent.

I am always amazed
at the beauty of
the relationship
between a horse and rider.

Congratulations
to you both!

the perfect day

There are many ideas of a perfect day
in the Hamptons.
For some,
it's a 20 plus mile bike ride.
(definitely not me)
For others,
it's surfing at Ditch Plains.
(preferably with Jimmy Buffett)
It may be
spending the whole day
at the ocean
or
shopping in Southampton.
It could be
 a celebrity sighting
or
procuring and cooking an
all organic meal from a local farm stand.
To some,
it's spending the day at home
with family.
To others,
it's preparing for
a social networking cocktail party.
It may be a
 paddleboard  excursion at Long Beach
or
a glamorous philanthropic event.

However,
I had one of my versions
of a perfect Hampton day
on Sunday.

Our friend,
(Magic) Mike
picked us up from
Long Wharf on his dinghy.

It was somewhat intimidating
to be on a tiny rubber raft
next to yachts like this.

We weaved in and out of all
the sailboats moored
on the water
and discovered that the
moorings cost only $50,
but the catch is the 12 year waiting list.

Finally,
Mike & Kerry's
gorgeous sailboat
came into view.

We climbed aboard
and opened
some Wolffer rose'.

The boat was my idea of heaven.
Two bedrooms
And
two bathrooms!
I wanted to move in,
but I reminded myself
I was just there for the day.

Aboveboard,
we snacked on
some delicious food

as we gazed upon
pristine land.

In the afternoon,
the wind picked up and
we set the sail.

L & C lounged
on the bow

while we chatted on
the stern.

Eventually,
we dropped anchor
and swam.

Even me.
It was exhilarating.

Then,
we sailed home,
parked our dinghy,

and walked into
town for an ice cream.

It was unequivocally,
my idea of a
 perfect
Hampton
day.
