a day in the life

Around the end of the school year,
I mentioned to some friends
that we were busy every night
in the Hamptons.
I was wrong.
It's more like every minute.

So, here goes a day in the life...

On Sunday morning,
John and I were up bright and early
for a walk/run on Long Beach.

While there,
we obtained our
beach pass for the season.

Once home,
we quickly dressed
because we were due for brunch
at 11:30.

It was lovely.

The setting was bucolic.

I especially loved the sculptures.

Even though it was really a beach day,
we had errands to run
so we headed into Sag Harbor.

Before shopping,
we fortified ourselves with ice cream
from Yummylicious.

After making some purchases at
Flying Point Surf Shop
and Gubbins,
we dashed home to walk the dogs.
Then, immediately left again
to meet friends at Nobu
in Southampton

where I quickly discovered
my new favorite cocktail ~

a pineapple martini!

We enjoyed
lobster tacos
(no picture because they
were consumed immediately!)
and rock shrimp tempura

before traveling home
to get a good night's sleep ~
so we can start all over again
tomorrow.

PetFest

On Saturday evening,
John and I attended the VIP reception
for PetFest.

PetFest is an event
sponsored by the
Pet Philanthropy Circle
and it's effervescent president,
Jewel Morris.

John presented the award for
Shelter of the Year
to the
Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation.

Dolce won the award for
Amazing Pet of the Year.

Since he can do many tricks
but still can't drive
his mom, Dr. Cynthia Otto,
brought him.
She is the founding Director
of the Penn Working Dog Center.

Aida Turturro,
(my favorite ever!)

introduced  Jill Rappaport,
who received the
Pet Humanitarian of the Year Award.

I had no idea of her love for animals
or because of her experience with
her beloved dog Jack,
she had asked that her position on the Today Show
become one of animal advocacy.
Hence, her "Bow to Wow"
segment.

I was truly moved by this lady's speech.

Yes, that's her ~
 the original Foxy Brown,
Pam Grier.
When she's not acting,
she spends her time rescuing and rehabilitating horses
for  therapeutic riding programs
in Colorado.
She has a movie of her life coming out
and I can't wait to see it!
She is Amazing!

There were many more awards
given to extraordinary individuals
making a difference
by following their passion.

what a difference some sunshine makes

The weather was beautiful here yesterday
so we quickly decided to take advantage of it
by stopping at the Sagg store
to grab a turkey and brie sandwich
before heading to Sagg Main.

It was gorgeous

and practically deserted.

This same beach will
host multitudes of people in the next several weeks,

but for now
it is tranquil.

I watched John and Lyons
play paddle

and wondered if
this was really my
little boy.

Afterwards,
we attended
Sunset Friday

where we saw some of my favorite people.

Then, we attended the play
at Guild Hall
in East Hampton
before dining at
in Sag Harbor.

Most people leave the busy city
to come to the Hamptons to relax.
However, for us
it is Hemmingway's
"moveable feast."
There is so much to do,
so much to enjoy,
and so much to take in
that we cannot seem to
get enough.

movement in the grass

As we sat on the porch
enjoying the evening

with a glass of red

we began to feel
as if we were being watched.

Furtively,
we glanced around.

It wasn't this guy.

Then,
out of the corner of our eyes
we noticed
a fleeting movement
on the grass.

Upon closer
(foot)
inspection

we discovered

our very own
Katniss Everdeen
and Prim.

I cannot imagine why
we were not
overtaken.

cloudy with a chance of cocktails

It's been cold and cloudy here
for the past several days.
However, just like
any beach
anywhere,
it's still beautiful.

On Friday night,
we attended our first Sunset Friday
of the season.

It was chilly,
but Clinton Curtis played

and between the music, wine, and sweaters
it warmed up
~ just enough.

After enjoying rose' with some close friends,
we went to their house for
dinner.

While there,
I was introduced to a new cocktail
of Aperol and (Wolffer) sparkling with a slice of orange.

It was pretty And delicious.

Cheers!

is it still may?

The best part of being on the
East End
this time of year,
is that during the week
no one is here!
(Except the locals and they're my favorite people anyway.)
The NY kids are still in school and it's only the weekends
that get crazy.

On Tuesday,
my friend and I decided to meet up at Sagg Main.
I pulled up to an (almost) empty parking lot and
found a spot on the beach.

I waited and waited with no sign of my friend
or my child who was with her.
They had decided to paddle board to the beach,

so we ended up meeting at the cut-out.

The afternoon was spent catching up and watching the girls play.

C stayed into the evening for a barbecue with friends.

While I had to rush back to attend dinner at the
American Hotel
with the vivacious April Trigg and her charming husband.
April owns Eventologie in Atlanta and plans events
around the world,
so if you are planning an event -
she's the one to call.

All in all,
all is well
this week
in the Hamptons!

summah day one

Summer is off to a perfect start!
John and I started the day with a walk/run
(guess who was running and who was walking)
at Long Beach.

Then, we did a little shopping
in Southampton.

Later,
we attended a Memorial Day
cocktail party.

We met some new interesting people
and re-connected with some old friends,
but
I think my favorite guests were these guys.

Fresh eggs anyone?

back in the hamptons

After a looong six months away,
we are back in the Hamptons
for summer.

It was so exciting to pull up
to our house
yesterday afternoon.

John and I celebrated
by breaking open
a bottle of
Wolffer sparkling
on the patio

while the kids
grabbed skateboards
and played
whiffle ball.

And the house
quickly became a home again
with shoes, dogs, and belongings
strewn about.

Yes,
there is a reason
this is my favorite place
on earth.

Summer has begun.
